Upshur County embraces our history, celebrates its businesses and invites you to come and make your home here
Welcome to Upshur County, West Virginia, nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains and home to the City of Buckhannon, one of “the best 100 small towns in America,” as per Mr. Norman Crampton’s book of the same title. With a population of about 25,000 people, Upshur County is in the north central part of the state, just off Interstate 79 and directly on Corridor H, a four-lane restricted highway that upon completion will allow access to the Washington, DC metro area in approximately three hours. Come walk our Main Street, stroll along the River Walk, dine in our restaurants, grow your business, enjoy the rural landscape, and make it your home. Much more than you expect awaits you here.
“I have been involved with development authorities in many of the cities I have lived and I have been very impressed with the Upshur County Development Authority. The UCDA has a great history of bringing successful businesses to Upshur County as well as constructing the Innovation Center on Main Street. The UCDA has a very engaged board made up of key community members, and it garners the support of Upshur County businesses, both large and small. Anyone looking to set up shop in Upshur County will receive great support from Brandon and the UCDA”
